Changing your artist name

Learn how to change your artist name, understand the requirements, and see how it may affect your releases in stores and streaming platforms.

Updated today

Changing your artist name might sound simple, but it can have an impact on your music and how you appear on streaming platforms.

Here’s a walkthrough on what to expect and how to proceed with the change.

We also recommend reading our "How to Pick Your Artist Name" article first.

What happens when you change your artist name

  • A new artist page is created
Streaming platforms and stores treat a name change as a brand-new artist. This means your old artist page will remain, but your new artist name and releases will get a brand-new page.

  • Loss of followers and monthly listeners
Because a new page is created, your monthly listeners and followers cannot be transferred from the old page.

  • Your releases may be harder to find
Listeners may have a more difficult time finding your music.

  • Apple Music policy on name changes
Apple Music does not allow artist names to be changed. Releases uploaded after the name change will appear on a new page, while old releases will remain on the original page under the old artist name.

  • Stats
Streams and play counts usually remain, but this cannot be guaranteed.

  • Processing time
Once the name is changed on our end, it may take a few days for stores to update the information. Occasionally, releases may end up on the wrong artist page if another artist shares the same or a similar name. If this happens, you can refer to this article.

Important notes

You can only change your artist name once. Please make sure you're certain about the change; it won't be possible to revert it afterwards.

Any artwork featuring your old artist name cannot be delivered to stores. You’ll need to provide new artwork with your updated artist name.
