Meta Ineligible Content

Updated over a week ago

Meta (Facebook & Instagram) has strict rules about what kinds of audio can be used and monetised on its platform. If your release falls into any of the categories below, it may be blocked, demonetised, or cause account-level issues.

To avoid problems, do not include Meta in your release if your music matches any of the ineligible types listed on this page.

Content that is NOT considered music

These types of audio are not treated as music and are not allowed for use or monetisation on Meta:

Sound Effects (SFX)

Single sounds or audio effects such as:

  • Explosions, impacts, ambiences, button sounds, etc.

  • Any sound with no clear melody or musical structure

Spoken Word / Speech

Audio that mainly contains:

  • Talking, dialogue, storytelling

  • Poetry without melody

  • Motivational or spoken recordings

Podcasts / Radio Shows / Album Commentary

  • Interviews

  • Podcast episodes

  • Radio-style programs

  • Commentary tracks, intros, outros, skits

Music that is unauthorised for distribution

These types of tracks violate copyright rules and are not allowed:

Sound-Alikes

Tracks that:

  • Imitate a real artist’s voice, style, or sound

  • Try to “pass as” a famous artist

  • Mislead listeners into thinking the real artist is involved

Covers are allowed only if they are clearly original and properly licensed.

Covers that are too similar to the original may still be rejected.

Illegitimate Tracks

Music that uses other people’s recordings without permission, including:

  • Slowed down, sped up, reverbed versions

  • Edits of existing songs

  • Unauthorised sampled tracks

  • Music taken from Meta’s Sound Collection and re-uploaded as your own

Unauthorised AI-Generated Content

AI music is not allowed if it:

  • Uses or imitates a real artist’s voice without permission

  • Uses a real artist’s name, image, or identity

  • Makes it look like the artist is officially involved when they are not

If your AI track sounds like a real artist and pretends to be them, it is not allowed.

Unauthorised DJ & Extended Mixes

Not allowed:

  • DJ mixes

  • Continuous mixes

  • Live DJ sets

  • Full albums combined into one long track

Music that is not distinct or original enough

Public Domain Sound Recordings

Music where both:

  • The composition copyright has expired

  • AND the recording (master) copyright has expired

These recordings are not protected for monetisation on Meta.

Classical Music with Public Domain Compositions

Recordings of:

  • Public-domain classical works

  • Orchestral, choir, or traditional performances

These may be allowed for listening, but cannot be used for fingerprinting or monetisation.

Ambient, Meditation, Yoga & Sleep Music

This includes:

  • Soundscapes with little or no melody

  • Spa, relaxation, yoga, sleep, baby noise, white noise tracks

  • Generic artist or track names like “Relaxing Music,” “Meditation Sounds,” etc.

These tracks are commonly rejected on Meta.

Karaoke Recordings

  • Backing tracks with missing or removed vocals

  • Karaoke versions of popular songs

Instrumental versions are not the same as karaoke and may still be allowed.

Original AI-Generated Music (Monetisation Risk)

Even fully original AI-generated tracks:

  • May be rejected from monetisation

  • May trigger additional reviews or penalties

Music with no clear exclusive rights owner

These are not allowed because Meta requires exclusive rights for music:

Non-Exclusive / Royalty-Free Music

Do NOT include Meta if your track is:

  • Royalty-free music

  • Creative Commons

  • Subscription-based stock music

  • Licensed to multiple users

If you don’t exclusively own it, do not send it to Meta.

Production Music

Includes:

  • Stock music

  • Soundbeds

  • Trailer music

  • Production loops

  • Library music

If the artist name looks like a studio or library, this content is usually not allowed.

Content that violates safety rules

Harmful Content

Your music must NOT contain:

  • Personal private information

  • Hate speech

  • Sexual exploitation (adults or minors)

  • Graphic, sexual or violent content

  • Content promoting violence, terrorism, self-harm, or suicide

  • Discrimination based on race, religion, gender, or identity

Untagged Explicit Content

If your track includes:

  • Strong profanity

  • Graphic sexual content

  • Violence

You must mark it as explicit.

Fraudulent Content

This includes any music (AI or human-made) that:

  • Manipulates Meta’s systems

  • Steals from other creators

  • Attempts to earn money dishonestly

  • Is used in large-scale abuse or scam networks

This can lead to catalogue-wide penalties.

When you should EXCLUDE Meta from your release

You should exclude Meta (Facebook & Instagram) if your release is:

  • Royalty-free

  • Production music / stock music

  • Meditation / ambient / sleep

  • Karaoke

  • DJ mixes

  • Public-domain classical

  • AI-generated

  • Spoken word / podcast

  • Non-exclusive license

  • Sample-based content with unclear rights

Important Warning

Repeated delivery of ineligible content to Meta can lead to:

  • Track removals

  • Loss of monetisation

  • Catalogue-wide penalties

  • Blocking of future uploads

  • Full loss of Meta monetisation access

If you are unsure about your rights - exclude Meta to stay safe.

FAQs

Will this affect other platforms?

No - ineligibility applies only to Meta. Other stores have their own rules.

My track was accepted before - why blocked now?

Meta’s detection systems get updated often. Older tracks can be flagged later.

Can Amuse dispute the decision?

Most of the time, Meta’s ruling stands. Ensuring your content is fully original is the best safeguard.
