Upload a music video

Learn the requirements for uploading a music video for your release.

Got an official music video ready to go? You can upload and distribute it through Amuse from the web app.

Your song needs to already be live through Amuse before you can add a video. Music videos aren't currently available for cover songs.

If you're eligible, you'll find the option under Release in the web app.

Before you upload

Make sure your video meets these requirements:

Video

  • Format: MOV or MP4, max 20 GB

  • Video codec: ProRes 422 HQ (recommended), or AVC/H.264 High Profile

  • Resolution: 1920 × 1080 recommended, 1440 × 1080 minimum

  • Frame rate: 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50 or 60 fps

  • Encoding format: Constant Frame Rate (CFR) and progressive scan

  • Variable Bit Rate (VBR)

  • Color space: Rec. 709 / BT.709

  • Chroma subsampling: 4:2:0 or 4:2:2

  • Video bit depth: 8-bit or 10-bit (ProRes is 10-bit)

  • Original display aspect ratio, with square pixels (1.0)

  • At least one keyframe every 60 seconds

Audio

  • Stereo (exactly 2 channels)

  • 44.1 kHz or higher, with 48 kHz preferred

  • PCM preferred, or AAC

  • 16-bit or 24-bit for PCM (AAC uses variable bit depth)

  • Audio that matches the music release

Distributing video to Apple Music

For distribution to Apple Music, your videos must meet specific requirements:

Video

  • Format: MOV

  • Video codec: ProRes 422 HQ

  • Resolution: 1920x1080 (HD), 1440x1080 (HD), 3840x2160 (4K UHD), or 4096x2160 (4K DCI)

  • Frame rate: 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97 or 30 fps

  • Encoding format: Constant Frame Rate (CFR) and progressive scan

  • Variable Bit Rate (VBR)

  • Color space: Rec. 709 / BT.709

  • Chroma subsampling: 4:2:2

  • Video bit depth: 10-bit

Audio

  • Stereo

  • Audio codec: PCM (lossless)

  • Audio sample rate: At least 48 kHz

  • Audio that matches the music release

If your file doesn't meet these specs, you can still upload your video to other available stores, but Apple Music won't be available as a video store.

You cannot retroactively upgrade your distributed video release to become eligible for Apple Music. For the widest distribution, we recommend using the Apple specs from the start.

Thumbnail

Choose a still frame straight from your music video and add the timestamp where it appears.

Your thumbnail should be 16:9, JPG/JPEG and max 10 MB, with no added text, logos, black bars or explicit content. It can't be an image created or edited specifically for the thumbnail.

What can I upload?

We're looking for the official music video for your song - the main video created to accompany and tell the story of the track.

We can't accept:

  • Lyrics, subtitles or closed captions in the video

  • Visualizers

  • Banners, chyrons or lower-third graphics

  • Release dates, QR codes or advertising

  • Medleys or videos containing more than one song

  • Interviews, behind-the-scenes or other standalone videos

Live performances are welcome as long as the same song is already live as an audio release through Amuse.

18+ content

If your video has an official age rating, add it when uploading.

Please flag it when uploading (for example, in the file name) if it includes content that may require an 18+ rating, such as suicide or self-harm (including disordered eating), substance use or abuse, graphic or violent content, sexual content or nudity, or repeated or prolonged visual profanity or vulgar language.

Credits

Add at least one director credit using their first and last name or artist alias. Company and studio names can't be used as director credits.
